Roy and Cameron Wielhouwer welcome you to Great Mountain Soapstone! When I founded Great Mountain Soapstone in 2002, soapstone was a lesser known countertop product in Canada. Since then, soapstone has become a staple in homeowners kitchens, bathrooms, fireplaces and outdoor spaces across Niagara, Hamilton, the Greater Toronto Area, cottage country and beyond. For over a decade, I (Cameron) have grown up in our family business. From sweeping shop floors and doing full installations, to leading our sales. We are truly a family-run business.
With a combined 30 years of experience working with soapstone, and working in the kitchen and bathroom industry, we hope to help each and everyone one of our clients elevate their interior and exterior living spaces. Our combination of experience, knowledge and leading trends in the kitchen industry allow us to help guide our clients through their soapstone process. When we aren’t helping clients with the countertop selection process or working with our incredible team, we are spending time with family, hanging out with friends or up North at the family cottage!

Great Mountain Soapstone emerged after a client expressed interest in matte, no-sheen, stain-proof kitchen and bathroom countertops. Discovering that soapstone checked all the boxes and that there were no soapstone countertop options or suppliers in Ontario, my father saw a unique opportunity to bring this naturally beautiful, durable stone to the area. After a trip to Vermont, where soapstone is prevalent in many homes and businesses, my father began sourcing his first soapstone slabs, becoming the first soapstone supplier serving Niagara, Hamilton, the Greater Toronto Area, cottage country and beyond.
The combination of soapstone’s natural beauty and texture along with its matte finish instantly captured the attention of clients looking to elevate their kitchen countertops, bathroom sink, custom vanity tops, outdoor living space and stone fireplace features. As a unique and natural alternative countertop option, soapstone gained even more popularity as the years went on! Since being founded in 2002, we are proud to be the premier soapstone supplier in Ontario manufacturing in a large shop with laser templating and full CNC production for the highest level of precision and efficiency. Our company prides itself on providing a supportive environment where our team members can learn, grow and work collaboratively on all aspects of our operations.
